Subject: Final Demand for Payment - On Air
Dear Mr Strauss,
Apropos the above and your attached letter of 21 December 2017, I wish to respond as follows:-
A telesales person at On Air sold me a small box that would allow us to watch additional shows on TV. She said the price is R700, but that the deal is that I have to pay it off at R29/month over 24 months. I responded that I do not like paying off accounts and enquired if I cannot pay it off in 1 shot, to which she responded I can only do that after 3 months. Throughout the whole conversation I got the impression they were part of Multichoice/DSTV. Thinking that it is a reputable company and the fact that the monthly amount was so menial, I agreed to it, against my better judgement. However, from the first month they deducted the R29/month plus an additional R129 from my bank account. I am very busy in my own business and hardly look at my personal bank account, just at my balances from time to time, because I always know more or less what should be in the account. Hence I let it slip and only after a number of months that the decoder was not working, I called the service company in, that installed my TV`s and decoders over the years, to see what was wrong – they informed me that the decoder was faulty and that I must take it back to DSTV, who will just exchange it for a new one at no charge. On my arrival at DSTV I was informed that On Air is not part of them and that they cannot exchange the decoder – the person at DSTV gave me the On Air telephone number, which I dialled right away. I explained my situation to the woman of On Air that spoke to me and also asked her why they are deducting an additional R129/month from me. She asked for my fax number and said she will fax all the details to me within 3 days and that all their calls are recorded and that she can send me a script. I did not get a fax from On Air, but made a point to look at my bank account the end of the month and saw they again deducted both the R29 & R129 – I instructed my bank to cancel the debit order. Ever since, I received 3 calls from On Air to say I have not paid, but on my request that they send me the promised fax and copy of our discussions I hear nothing.
I subsequently learned that this little decoder only cost R250 at DSTV.
I am in possession of a broken decoder that only worked for a few months, I paid our TV Service Company R480 for a call out to see if we were doing something wrong why the decoder is not working, On Air deducted an additional R129/month for what ????, I wasted treasured time to go to DSTV to try and resolve the problem and all the time I just got messed around and were getting bad service from a very unprofessional company where the people can hardly communicate properly. It is my opinion that the sales people at On Air earns commissions and charges additional services of menial value that is not too noticeable to your account and hope you do not pick it up.
Mr Strauss, if you have investigated this, you will find I am the person that should get compensated. The amounts were deducted as follows: OA – ********** 8 – 1 for R29/month and ENTOA – ********** 8 – 2 for R129/month.
Kindly forward me the fax and copies of my discussions with the On Air personnel plus their physical address so that I can courier them a broken decoder that worked for less than 3 months. Also please ask them to credit my account with the many months` R129 they deducted from me.
Yours sincerely,
Neville White
