Is Omoda (Chery) crashing in South Africa already?

I recently bought an Omoda ( Chery) from Omoda/Chery Northcliff. 9October 2023)

This is a true story. All facts can be verified by vehicle owner or reference Chery/Omoda Northcliff or Sandton

The vehicle itself is a complete failure. It’s as if China is building the **** made them infamous in the 80s. And they are still dumping there failed products on the world. Well South Africa. The OMODA is Chinese junk.

In the meantime Northcliff dealership's service department "closed down". Not enough sales they say. Testament to the junk I speak of. Now I have to drive to Sandton for service, maintenance, and other issues (many, many, many). Which, trust me are part of the joys of owning this cheap Chinese junk I refer to. The car is *******. The vehicle software ( Onboard and Android Auto) has never fully functioned. The screen display shows in half the screen (if that makes sense). All the applications "hang or freeze in one way or another. Waze being the biggest problem. How to navigate when your GPS freezes during loadshedding traffic…….!!!!! The aircon does not work. The fuel economy has never been close to what they said it was. For a 1.5 engine 13-16 litres/100kms is pretty steep I’d say. They can’t fix that. Run it in “sport” mode was their recommendation for the trying to bring economy in line. Even the little wheel cap on the front right fell out and they don’t have stock of that. This is all true today the 15/03/2024. Oh and the brakes were completely trashed (metal to metal) at 9000 kms. For which they wanted to charge me!! So expect brake change every 9000. Not covered under motor plan apparently.

So after taking it to Northcliff we came away unfixed and nothing resolved and no better off. They then closed down. Except for the advice described above. Just pathetic service.

So……Sandton here we come. First round…..surely after three weeks in the shop we'd (they) would be able to fix issues. Wrong!!! No clue. None what so ever. THREE WEEKS!! So after then had to collect it last Friday (08/03/2024). Returned Monday (11/03/2024). Them on Wednesday....hello your cars ready!! Thursday morning....sorry we were wrong your car is still broken.

FUN FACT: OMODA Sandton cannot be in the same place as Chey Sandton. Is that because Chery does not want to be associated with a crumbling Chinese junk brand like Omoda??

Them: We actually have no idea. We see it's broken. We see it doesn’t work. We admit it's faulty. But unfortunately, we have no plan or the any clue. No idea how to fix it. So please take your car back broken and we will get back to you when we have some news. THIS IS AN ACTUAL VEHICLE DEALERSHIP IN JOHANNESBURG IN THE YEAR 2024……..Omoda Sandton.

One can see why now….they are in serious trouble. It appears this brand isn’t making it.

So as it stands I have an OMODA that the software is faulty, the motor (consumption) is faulty, it’s still missing that little wheel cap and there is no service to speak to of or any real future plan of action to remedy this.

FUN FACT: I have a 3.0L, V6, twin turbo, C43 AMG. It uses less fuel than an OMODA C5 or whatever the Chinese call this ****py derivative!! The stats say 7-8 litres/100kms…..show me one single Omoda that does that. It is false advertising.

Have I bought a dud, is OMODA (Chery) going **** up in SA already. Is Chery looking to distance themselves from the OMODA brand because it really is such Chinese junk that they do not want to be associated with it anymore or be dragged down with their apparent imminent demise?

Chery? Omoda? Whats the deal here guys?

This is a true story. All facts can be verified by vehicle owner or reference Chery/Omoda Northcliff or Sandton

Kind Regards, Michael Foster Managing Director VERISEC SA

We appreciate your patience in allowing us the opportunity to comprehensively address your concerns by keeping the vehicle until all issues were resolved. Identified concerns included:

  • Phone disconnection issues

Actions Taken:

  • Filed and received approval for a screen replacement claim; part arrived and was fitted, along with the latest software update.

  • Connectivity issues post-software update. Comprehensive testing across multiple devices (iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung S23, Samsung Note 10) showed perfect functionality.

Recently had a sit down with Omoda. The following points were discussed:

As per the discussion that took place on Tuesday at Chery Sandton, we agreed experiencing the following problems/issues with regards to the Omoda purchased from your group:
  1. Waze still does not work. And subsequent to meeting has started trouble again.
  2. The Speaker and mic work/malfunction intermittently.
  3. The doors lock/unlock remote function, malfunctions intermittently.
  4. The breaks were worn out and needed to be replaced after 5000km. Omoda stretched that to 9000kms. Let it be noted that any new vehicle using brakes at a rate of 9000kms / set is ludicrous. It was mentioned that the front wear was at 3% and rear at 8%. Which validates my claim that the brakes were already shot at 5000 odd kms. Still not sure why I need to pay this invoice??
  5. The connectivity between phone and vehicle is inconsistent and malfunctions regularly. So from exiting the vehicle and re-entering after parking the phone would have lost connection to the car and needs to be reconnected from scratch.
  6. The display screen minimizes (halves); therefore, I am unable to use the features on the display screen. So it’s the full image but displayed in half the screen.
You have advised that these issues will be escalated, and you will come back to me regarding further resolution of these issues. Please advise what the way forward is in resolving the above-mentioned issues.

The saga continues....So the vehicle now is approaching 1 year old with 19000kms on the clock. The brakes have been replaced twice already. On a weekend away now the brakes without warning went metal to metal, and obviously damage to the discs now too. So it needs a third set of brake pads and new discs in less than one year. Omoda/Chery say the vehicle has no brake warning lights and the only wat to detect wear is by noise. So if you're #deaf #hearingimpaired this car is going to kill you. They also think that having to change pads three time in a year (19000kms) is perfectly normal for this car. They admitted on video that the vehicle has no brake sensors....I found this....https://warning-lights.org/chery-omoda-5-warning-lights-and-dashboard-symbols/ #justsaying.....I have also posted part of the video conversation with the service manager telling me there is no brake warning and you need to listen for noise.....LOL. You can see that here....https://www.facebook.com/share/p/n7gmtbnZhasvxxJc/.....I don't know what to do. The vehicle can't even make its service interval without needing pads. So two sets per service interval, and this according to Omoda SA is perfectly normal for this car. God help the hearing impaired. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR, IT IS A DUD.

So just an update here....obviously had to boot Chery Northcliff as service providers because they are absolute imbecilic buffoons....and now we actually have concrete proof of this fact. So now needing the 4th set of break pads at 35000kms OMODA FOURWAYS (a proper dealership) had the *****/spine/intellect to actually take a chance and inspect the breaks.....and low behold both front calipers had seized. So under warranty they assisted and now the vehicle has brand new calipers, discs and pads. So both the Chery/Omoda Northcliff and the this pathetic thing called an ombudsman can kiss my ass. I was right. You are useless idiots and put my life in danger you *******es!! Although I still expect you idiotic and spineless behavior to persist because that's just who you all are! It's just good to be right!!
