MIO - Consumer protector or Dealer protector
Shocking is the most decent word that comes to mind. On first impression the MIO stood for consumer rights, however upon trying to finalise my complaint the Ombudsman handed me as the consumer the short end of the stick to say the least. The MIO made a Ruling based on a very specific section of the CPA for a dealership to take a defective vehicle back at the dealerships own expense and risk less the cost of usage (fair in my opinion.) The dealer after outright ignoring the MIO supp**** a proposed cost sheet trying to claim costs over and above what is deemed as cost of usage. After a meeting was held between the Ombudsman and a 3rd party from the RMI (dealer representative) without informing or including me as the consumer and complainant, not only did the Ombudsman afford the dealer the costing they have requested over and above the usage, the Ombudsman has dictated that the cost of usage will include depreciation at a rate of R39.28 per KM without supplying me with the facts to back this completely illogical rate up! This has resulted in me as the consumer having to pay in excess of R 25 000.00 in \usage"fees for a vehicle deemed defective by the MIO. Who are they protecting???"""
