Banking Ombuds are fair and just and ensure justice for the public.
I had a bad experience at my local FNB bank and tried to resolve it internally. They refused to budge. They opened the wrong account and didn't want to do anything about it, despite my many appeals. Finally, I had no choice but to use the Banking Ombuds. It was a very easy method to lodge the grievance. It didn't take long. They responded immediately and said they were giving the bank 30 days to resolve the matter. After 30 days had expired, I wrote back and told them that no one from the bank had contacted me. They immediately sprung into action and disciplined the bank as well as instructed the bank to compensate me for their wrongdoing. In fact, the bank still gave me only half the amount that the ombuds instructed them to give me. I only came to know this when I thanked the ombuds for the sum of money the bank paid me out. The ombuds was outraged and told me that it was supposed to be double that amount. They got hold of the bank immediately, who then called me over to pay the full amount! So I'm very impressed at the way the ombuds works and how we can get justice as long as we have all the right information and documents.
