OLX South Africa - a complete farce & waste of money & time - stay clear of this site!
Don't waste your time trying to sell stuff on OLX online classifieds!
From the moment you start advertising your items on OLX, you realize you're on a website that resembles something akin to a gambling-site, or a casino ... why do I say this? Here are the reasons; 1) Unless your ad is "featured" it gets almost NO views & in order to get your ad "featured", you have to pay a cost - this varies depending on the item - OLX doesn't charge less than R90 to feature an item (for inexpensive sales) & can charge a few hundred rand for more expensive sales items - these "featured" items only appear for 1 week & then you'll be charged again if you want to "feature" your adverti*****t/s. 2) The OLX website is crawling with "SHADY" characters - hence, the reason I say it's like a gambling-website ... the overwhelming majority of people freqenting this website are, what's classified as "Window-Shoppers" i.e. people who are NOT serious buyers & are only trying to deliberately under-value, haggle & mark-down the true value and cost of your item! OLX, whether they care to admit it, or not, only serve to promote this behavior, by having it's standard Key buttons in the "Chat" section of the site, "MAKE AN OFFER" & "WHAT'S THE LOWEST PRICE?" - this just encourages the shady low-lives who frequent the website, to under-value & haggle all of your advertised items - as has been the case with ALL my ads! 3) There are ********* using this website - the Whatsapp profiles of some of the site's users, are beyond scary & threatening - I found this out too! 4) As previously mentioned, so-called "buyers" on this site, are not serious-buyers ... I put aside a day & time, on three occasions, as I was promised by the "buyer" that he would be coming to my place to buy the item - needless to say, he **** & let me down on each occasion - didn't pitch-up & didn't even have the decency to say why, or to apologize- a regular theme on the OLX website! 5) Lastly, if all the above-mentioned things don't turn you off the OLX website - then take heed of this - every single person who has communicated with me on the "Chat" function of the site, HASN'T followed-up with their enquiries regarding the items - not a single person prepared to see-through the sale process - just empty requests & promises - the site is a complete joke & waste of time!!!

We just want to reiterate that placing ads on any online classifieds platform is a bit of a risk as there is no face to face negotiation or discussion unless you choose to meet up with the buyer/seller and we always encourage our users to be as vigilant as possible.
With regards to our Featured Ads, the price range is determined by the category and amount of time you choose to feature your ad, so it is not only weekly. We have many users such as car dealerships, etc, making use of the service who manage to successfully sell their goods quickly and conveniently.
Because paying for ads is not compulsory and users are still able to post ads for free, there are unfortunately those shady people who choose to take advantage of the service. Not to worry, our Trust & Safety team are always on top of their game with the existing safety measures we have in place and also coming up with new initiatives to rid the platform of ********.
We appreciate your feedback and can only learn from it.

Thanks for replying to my original post, however, there are just a couple of things I'd like to add - in reply to your response.
Here are the facts & the FACTS don't lie;
1) I posted 4 ads on your website (OLX) - these ads have "featured" on your website, for almost 3 weeks.
2) I spent 480 Rand in total, just to have these 4 ads "featured" on your site.
3) Of the time these 4 ads spent "featured" on your website, I received NUMEROUS "Chat" notifications, on my laptop & cellphone App, from OLX users.
4) Of these NUMEROUS OLX users 99% of them, were either ********, **********, people messing-me-around & wasting my time, "window-shoppers" i.e. people just interested in my "featured" items & "liking" my ads & hustlers i.e. people trying to literally halve-the-price of my already competitively & reasonably priced items - I even had requests for my items from people outside of my city!
5) Ironically, the only sale I made, was for 280 rand & this to someone visiting Cape Town, from Namibia! This sale, didn't even cover the ridiculous costs of your advertised "features"!
Regardless of whether your website perfectly fits the requirements of "used-car-salesman", as you mention in your reply; your website should be a place where your website's users, meet reasonable & trustworthy requirements, (regardless of whether, or not they pay for their items to be featured) - your "reasoning" in your reply, sounds more like an "excuse" for your the standard of the users on your website & for their behavior!
Lastly, I know from experience - in life you can decorate a turd & call it what you like, although, at the end of the day, it remains a turd ... your OLX website is just this ... a TURD!
