Very Bad Service

My mother passed on on 23.10.2016. I called my funeral policy holder and they told me of all the benefits that comes with insuring with them. There is a free service of transporting the deceased to the place of burial etc.

Please see below email I sent to them, based on the experience I recieved.

The service i received from Lebo leaves a very bad taste in our mouths.

We had agreed and scheduled for the deceased to be transferred/handed over at 8:30 this morning. Avbob took their own time with the process, we were attended to only after 30min to the arranged time.

Upon asking the driver about an estimate time of arrival in Port Elizabeth so that the Mortuary knows when to expect my mother. He said he will be sleeping in Queenstown and maybe leave early in the morning but would try to be in PE by 10am.

I called Lebo to ask her about this stop that is not even on the route home, and suggested that if a stop needs to be done the nearest place would Cradock. She agreed on changing this stop. We left the mortuary went home for a short prayer which did not take long. When it was time to go he (the driver) asked me for the burial order (something of that nature) which i said he was suppose to have received from the morg he indicated that he did not get one. I had to run out go make a cas she y of death certificate for him in order for them to leave.

After they left the family member travelling with the deceased called to day Lebo is saying they are going to stop in Queenstown and nit cradock. I called Lebo to find out what the problem was, she explained the need for safety of the driver and that they had to rest in between, which i had no issues with. I asked her why is mom sleeping in Queenstown she could not give me a tangible response but said she was going to talk to transport manager and get back to me which she never did. I called the office twice before 5pm looking for she was busy, left messages she never got back to me. I explained the cultural dynamics to her about a deceased person loitering around worse after cultural rituals were performed to ensure a safe journey. She seemed to understand.

To my surprise the body is in Queenstown despite my plea on the issue, even worse the family member is just tossed from one car to another as she will be sleeping at some guesthouse. Driver and the deceased wonder of to only God knows where.

When i requested for transportation for mama i was never informed of any foreign stops, had the best service from Charity who kept in checking that all is well until i was transferred to Lebo who somewhat felt that having a family member in that car somewhat complicates things as i had initially said the body would travel alone. As if this was a huge favour done for us.

I want her first to know we are not poor cheap people and i told her this afternoon that if all this nonsense was shared with me, i would have paid Avbob the R8000 they require to transport that body. We don't live on handouts and i refuse to be treated like a begger who has no right to choose.

I am going to share this email with media, print and social to let people know of what a sham Old Mutual Funeral Support Services is.

I am so dissapointed at the little respect some people have for the dead or the wishes of their clients.
