Verify for airtime

I have won points from the rewards programme my issue is I need to verify before I can use them. Why do I need proof of residence and id just to buy airtime??? What do you need such documents for something so trivial. I've had an account with old mutual why don't you use those details to verify so I can spend my points instead of insisting I give away my private documents just buy airtime it's ridiculous
