Stay away from Old Mutual - no after sale service on funeral policies
My husband took out a policy with a broker. He added his mom and dad to the policy, because it had a funeral benefit for them. When his mom passed, we added my mom. Then my husband passed away. My first issue was that the broker who wrote the policy never followed up with my husband and added me as the beneficiary to this policy when legislation changed. I would thought that Old Mutual care about their customers more than just writing a policy. This meant that his policy was paid into the estate. Then we had the banking details changed, and for the last year and a half I am the policy payer. They were very happy to do that quickly, but never bothered to ask should we change anything else on the policy..... When I reached out to an Old Mutual broker to have the paperwork corrected, as I am the payer but still not the owner of this policy, I was informed that the matter was escalated as the broker could not help me further. Then my father in-law passed away. This has now been more than a month that I am waiting for Old Mutual. They send us forms, my independent broker assisted and jumped in and send them forms, because now they have to apparently open an Estate account or something. There is just no feedback from Old Mutual in this matter and Sanlam Trust is just as bad. I had to pay for my father in-law's funeral out of my credit card. I don't even know if Old Mutual finally send the things through to Sanlam Trust as there has been no feedback to my broker. So my question is, will Old Mutual refund me the interest that I have to pay n my credit card? And how long will this still take? My second problem is, what if my mom passes away, will her funeral benefit take three or more months?
