Policy lapsed

I had call from Old mutual today i had funeral cover for my family and my mom and brothers apperntly the policy for my brothers and mother lapsed in 2013 already i was unaware of it i m so ****ed what client service is this how does one laps and the other 3 still is active how come no called me or send me an email or post me something to notify me of this
