My mother passed away in October 2016 and she had a Green-light policy with Old Mutual and also made them the distributors of her Estate. They denied us her Life Insurance proceeds because they made her renew her Life Insurance Policy early 2016 because she missed one month's payment, then when she did pay the following month, "apparently" there was a fault in their system and so she had to renew her contract with them. Later in 2016 my mother passed away. We were told by the broker in charge of her estate at Old Mutual that we would receive her life Insurance proceeds and were asked to fill in certain documents for the money to be released, they took my mother's original ID, Death Certificate and Marriage certificate as well as copies of our identity documents as her children for almost 2 years, more than a year in, they asked us to send our banking details in July 2017 and told us my mothers Estate notice would appear in the Times and Government Gazette, in August, and there after we would receive payment. We kept on following up to see what the issue is, only for them to keep telling us that they are processing and waiting for the head office to finalize payment, for almost 2 years. The article did in fact appear in the newspapers and said that her proceeds would be released. The process continued, and we kept calling them, they did not even take the time to call us and tell us what the delay or issue was. After all this was done, and we had given them everything that they asked for, 2 years later we were told that they wont pay out my mother's Life Insurance, because she died from suicide, which is information they already knew from 2016, this was not new information to them, you can only imagine the frustration. Soon thereafter, the broker who was helping us from Old Mutual resigned with his assistant. Which we found to be very questionable. As if that was not enough emotional turmoil, in 2018 we were now following up what the delay was with my late mother's Estate, so once again, I called Old Mutual hoping to get everything finalized so we as a family can at least try and move on after being left with no money even after my mother had been paying such high premiums since 2011 with Old Mutual. The person who helped us then, was from the Durban Office (Old Mutual) and she told us that in order for the Estate to be finalized we had to pay R141 000 to Nedgroup Trust, Still Old Mutual. And we did that as requested, we continuously kept telling her that we are bereaved enough as it is and we have done all that they have asked, can they finalize everything so we can move on. After paying that amount as mentioned, the lady who was helping us also resigned in September 2018. We have now been referred to someone else. It is 2019, we DID NOT receive the Life Insurance money as it was declined by OM, they took R141 000 from us (We do not know what it was used for), the Estate has not yet been finalized, as a matter of fact, it is safe to say they have not done anything but take from us... Please help me resolve this because I am now ready to take this to the media more so because they don't even bother following up or giving us updates, instead I am always the one who has to call them to find out what is happening. I AM TIRED!
