Old Mutual Gets TFSA Start Date Wrong

On my recommendation, my son took out a Tax Free Savings Account with Old Mutual earlier this month via their website with a start date of 1st March 2016 to coincide with the tax year. He received a Whatsapp message today to remind him that his first premium will be collected on the 1st January. I realised that it was obviously captured incorrectly, and thought that a short phone call should be able to rectify their error. The last thing I expected was to spend almost 20 minutes on a call where the fifth person I spoke to (from OM Max Investments) would tell me that the only way this issue could be rectified would be to cancel the contract and re-apply. Chris would now have to do a handwritten, signed letter asking them to cancel the contract, when it's actually their mistake! If there had been an apology, one wouldn't mind. Instead, the attitude was one of \there's nothing I can do to help you - tough luck!"<br> <br> My son has decided just to go ahead with the 2 payments on the 1st Jan and Feb although he hadn't planned for it. I have to agree that it is the simplest solution"
