Old Mutual breaches client confidentiality
Late last year I started receiving messages from Old Mutual even though I'm NOT a client. The first few I ignored, but when I received an e-mail at work to inform me how to access 'my' tax-free Old Mutual investment contract, I responded by informing OM that I'm not aware of any investment, that their e-mail was sent to my work e-mail address (not my personal address), and that I was unable to open the attachment with 'my' password (date of birth). Anyone would have thought that this should raise more than one red flag... Not so.<br> In response, I received the full contract between OM and an individual living in Stellenberg. Our initials, addresses, ID numbers, phone numbers, e-mails, etc. differ. The only similarity is that we share a surname.<br> Once again I e-mailed to say I'm not her. Now OM's client services centre is trying to convince me that I am! So much for their customer privacy policy AND obligations in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act!<br> If you're an Old Mutual client, you better check that your personal info is not being disclosed to other parties.<br> (Please note: This site has asked me to confirm that I'm a bona fide OM client.
