Never open an Old Mutual Money Account

So after being sold on this "SAVINGS" account, I had to find out the hard way that it's actually more of a non-existent account.

My troubles started yesterday when I tried to withdraw money at an Old Mutual ATM on my way to a colleague's party. This was the first time I was using the card since I opened the account on 23 January 2019. Upon inserting my card, the ATM gave me a "Chip cannot be read", this is a new card mind you. So I go into the branch to tell the consultant that it's my first time using the card and it's not working, the consultant then went with me to the ATM and we got the same message. Went to Capitec ATM and it threw the card out as soon as we inserted it. The consultant then called the call centre and talked for a few minutes, I don't know what they advised but he decided to give me another new card.

He registers the card and cancels my previous card, then we head to the ATM with the "new" card and get the same message, I then decided to leave the branch (without my money) as I was getting nowhere with this and I had to rush, the manager said he'll escalate the matter.

Today I login to my account on the app to see if I can transfer money to one of my accounts with other banks where I'll be able to access it, only to find out that an amount of R60.00 was charged on my account for the new card.. WHAT??? IS IT MY PROBLEM THAT YOU GAVE ME 2 CARDS THAT DON'T WORK? WHY AM I PAYING FOR THAT??

I called the call centre to find out and the agent told me that my R60.00 will not be refunded because it's been almost a month since I got the card and haven't used it! (Excuse me??) What's the point of saving if you're going to use the money immediately when it gets into the account?? Is this not a savings account?? I was told that if I had tried to use the card earlier, I could have gotten a refund or free card, but since I'm disciplined and don't use my savings, I get to pay R60.00 to replace a card, with another card that doesn't work.

I then ask this call centre agent why I'm being made to pay as the card we're replacing was brand new, if the fault is on their side, why am I paying for it? I was told to hold the line... After holding, the agent then came back with another story. This time she explains that they had a technical problem yesterday and nobody knew about it, the consultant at the bank replaced my card as it was the only logical thing to do, but apparently, it didn't need to be replaced.

What about my money, I asked. It's not my problem that your IT guys don't notify you when they are experience glitches why should I be the one paying for that (unless it's one of the ways they try to rip poor people off)? She couldn't answer, only said to go to the ATM and try again.

This being my first experience using the card, I have to say I am utterly disappointed. Instead of withdrawing my money and proceeding with my plans, I ended up with no cash in hand and a bank account that's R60.00 short. I will now be closing this account, but before that, I want all my money back. WHO PAYS FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S LACK OF COMMUNICATION?? SIES OLD MUTUAL MONEY ACCOUNT, SIES!!

Still in the quest to access my money, which is now R60.00 short. I am now unable to transfer my money to my accounts at other banks as there's also a problem with the app, which won't allow me to make payments!! This is the third day and I'm still trying to get access to my money, and I'm at a point where I really need it now.
