Life insurance
For many year I had a life insurance at Old Mutual. In 2023 I had a ridiculous high premium for just under R2000, whilst my husband's premium was about R700 at another company. My premiums were deducted from my husbands Absa account. For one or other reason there was not enough in his account as they deducted on a Friday, because the due date fell on a weekend. I phoned the headquarters the Monday to explain and arrange another date. Our local branch was under renovation. Needless to say, it was not deducted again. I then went to our local branch as they were open again. I then required about the extremely high premium as well. The cancelled a few benefits I did not see use for anymore. I filled forms to arrange the premium to be deducted on the 10th of each month from my business account. However a few days later I received an email to say that I am penalized for 6 months. I was furious, but decided not to cause a scene. I waited patiently until June and went to our local branch again. I was assisted by a super efficient Siyabonga. He phoned headquarters and they assured him that the policy can be re-instated. They sent form wich we completed. I chose the option to not pay the delayed premiums now, as it was explained to me that they will deduct it from the R1500 000 that I was insured for before pay out if I fall away. We checked the banking details again, and I requested to change it to the 15th every month, and signed forms for that. I received an sms with a ref number it I have any further queries. Then the 15th came and passed with no deduction. I went back to the local Volsrust branch. I waited for more than half an hour for Siyabonga, as he was aware of my problem. I did not want to see someone else, as he was very helpful the first time around. When he went back to the computer, there was a new notice dated the 23rd July....4 days after I was there, to decline te re- instatement, as it was now too long! 4 days ago it was fine! I did not receive any message after I've seen Siyabonga on the 19th the previous month. I am really upset about all of this as I am 58....and self employed. I have been paying this policy for years, and it is very difficult to get a new life insurance at this age. Greetings Sandra de Jager in Volksrust
