Lapsed Life cover
I'm in Port Elizabeth I had a Life cover with Old Mutual since 2017.I have been paying my premiums successfully through debit order. Then in March this year 2021,I made a reversal coz I wanted to pay my son's college tuition. Then in April a debit order on my policy went through successfully. Then in May they did not debit and early in June(1st week) seeing that May has ended and still no deductions made. I contacted them by email enquiring as to why they did not make a debit and requested that they do a double debit(March & May)in June. And since thenI was writing email after email for clarity, and I even visited one of their branches here in PE.It's then that I was given a phone to make a call to their Jo'burg offices. Then I was informed that my policy had lapsed and I wanted to know when/how coz I paid in April it's them who did not make the debit order. Then I was told to write an email requesting for a reinstatement of the poilcy, which I did and still no response from their side. And in one of the emails I wrote them I even asked for options to pay the amount they did not debit. Now I'm in despair coz even when I make phone to them, like yesterday, I was asked to hold the line until it went dead. What can I do?
They informed me telephonically and by email that my policy will be reactivated after I paid for the 4 months that were outstanding, and thereafter premiums will be debited as per agreement.
I am so relieved, but I will be happiest when I see my policy in its normal status ie active again.
WORD OF ADVICE:It is dangerous to skip or make disputes regarding your policy premiums,I have learnt my lesson.I nearly lost my children's future security when I'm no longer here on this earth.
I thank you Old Mutual for meeting me half way but I mostly thank Hellopeter fo creating us a platform whereby our complaints and queries are heard.
