Irrelavant requirements - Shocking!!

I've resigned from my current employer and as normal, my pay day for this month will be the last day of the month, so I've been contacting all all companies which debit my bank account which includes Old Mutual home loan department to notify them that they should debit the account on the 31 August. My main concerne is that if the companies attempt to debit the account and there are no funds, there will be fees charged and for credit scoring as well. So i made it my priority that all companies were notified in time and all others had no problem they changed the date with no problem. But Old Mutual refused, saying they need to confirm that information with my current employer and my future employer payroll departments! I was so shocked and i don't understand why it should be confirmed with Payroll when the debit order is through my bank account, I've never missed not even 1 payment!!
