Given false information

I had a funeral cover from 2011. Last year Dec one payment didn't't go through and when I called the call centre they told me it lapsed and would require a deposit to be re instated. Which I did at std bank with this reference 69345SLB***9. After the deposit I thought everything is good because I even called to find out if they got the money and I was told all is good and I believed couse the debit order went in after I deposited. Only recently when I try to change banks that's when I heard it was never re instated but I've been paying. When I call them now the tell me to go to the branch and at the branch they said they will refund my money for only this year's payment. I don't want any money back all I wanted was peace of mind knowing that I would bury my parents properly. I'm very disappointed and I hope someone can give answers and good reason because all I hear doesn't make sense to me. I even ask the lady from call centre last week Wednesday to call me back but nothing till now.
