Extremely Disappointed

26 Years of Fighting for a Disability Claim I am writing this as a permanently disabled policyholder. In 1998, while pregnant, I suffered serious medical complications that left me permanently disabled. I was medically boarded in 1999. I submitted a disability claim to Old Mutual under my policy. My claim was rejected. Over the years, my condition has worsened. I have suffered neurological problems, severe depression, and even a stroke. I lost my home and my financial stability because I could no longer work. In 2021 and again in 2025, Old Mutual re-engaged my claim and requested medical proof relating back to 1999. I comp**** and submitted documentation. However, after all of this, the matter was limited to whether the claim was “correctly administered in 1999,” and prescription was re**** on as the reason not to pay. After more than two decades of struggle, I am now left with no internal remedy. Litigation is my only option. I am not asking for sympathy — only fairness. I believed my policy would protect me in the event of disability. Instead, I have spent 26 years fighting for recognition of what happened to me. I remain open to mediation and resolving this matter without court, but I feel deeply disappointed by how this has been handled. I hope Old Mutual will reconsider engagement at a senior level.
