Don't take old mutual retirement fund

I have an Open-ended investment retirement annuity with old mutual with fund value of R14560. The fund shows as paid up, but the money is seating with Old mutual not accumulating interest or anything and they say I can only get it when I am 55 years old. What will the value of this money be in 20 years time? It will be worthless. Why can't I reinstate the policy or switch the funds to an other investment. This is my money I contributed and they are holding it. I phoned them couple of times and they are not helping me.
