African Practises not welcomed at Old Mutual

I would like a full explanation from Old Mutual around customary marriages. When I took out a policy for my late husband your consultant did not advise that customary law is not recognised by Old Mutual in claim times but during premiums the money is good for you as a company. When my husband passed away in October 2023, I had to got all over the place asking people for assistance to bury my husband because Old Mutual declined my claim because we were not married at Home Affairs but traditionally. This still hurts till this day as I had been paying the policy from 2002 till October 2023 when he passed and Old Mutual decided to run away with my premiums of over 20 years along with what they had promised to pay out when my husband passes.

If you are not married at Home Affairs but traditionally run away from insurance companies they do not cater for such marriages and pity because I didn’t have lawyers to fight this but if you happen to read this review and have family members who have insurances with Old Mutual but not signed at Home Affairs cancel those insurances or you will have depression later on. For your own sanity and health stay away from Old Mutual!

Hello Delia,

My distraught sister still awaits for someone to contact her and nothing has happened since this review went up.
