ADD EXTENDED FAMILY ****

When one takes a funeral cover, Old mutual says you can add extended family members but when it comes to paying if one of them pass on, its an issue. My nephew who is a policy holder took a policy for one of his Aunts who was adopted into the family. When he added her on the cover, Old mutual knew or rather saw that its extended family and its different surnames and they accepted this and started debiting the premiums but now that she is gone, they say the deceased was misrepresented when the documents were submitted and therefore they will only pay the premiums that were paid on this cover. Where is this information on the fine print? When the claim was resent, the consultant at the branch was very helpful and told us to get Affidavits that explain how the deceased was related to the deceased. Affidavits were submitted to Old mutual, stating how the deceased was related to the policy holder but they have now declined the claim because the details of how they are related are not clear enough for them to pay. All I can say is people need to be careful when they take the cover with Old mutual, its never the same when it comes to paying. They ask for documents, one after the other and still its not enough. Lesson learnt and will sure like to warn everyone that be careful when signing, you might not get what you've been paying for.
