A Frustrating Experience with Old Mutual

A Frustrating Experience with Old Mutual

I'm writing this review as a warning to others about the frustrating and disappointing experience I've had with Old Mutual. My mother had a funeral policy and a Retirement Max policy with Old Mutual, and after her passing in 2018, I've been trying to claim the benefits. Despite being a listed beneficiary, I've faced numerous hurdles and delays in getting the claims processed. I was able to claim the funeral policy benefit for my mother, but the Retirement Max policy claim is still pending.

What's astonishing is that I was the sole beneficiary listed on the Retirement Max policy, yet Old Mutual claims I don't have the authority to access the benefits. To make matters worse, when my brother passed away in 2020, I was unable to claim the funeral policy benefit for him, despite having a paid-up policy funeral cover specifically for him. This has caused significant financial strain and emotional distress.

The most shocking part is that there are two unknown beneficiaries listed on the policy, who are not family members and have never come forward to claim the benefits. I've provided all the necessary documentation, including a letter of authority from the Master's Court and an affidavit stating that I don't know these unknown beneficiaries. Yet, Old Mutual continues to request more information and documentation, including the account and ID numbers of these unknown individuals.

It's been years since my mother passed away, and I'm still waiting for the claims to be processed. I've had to borrow money to cover funeral expenses for my brother. The emotional distress and financial burden caused by Old Mutual's inefficiencies and bureaucratic red tape have been overwhelming.

I urge others to be cautious when dealing with Old Mutual and to carefully review their policy documents to ensure that there are no unexpected beneficiaries listed. It's unacceptable that a reputable financial institution like Old Mutual can cause so much harm and distress to their clients' families.

Rating: 1/5 stars

Recommendations:

- Review policy documents carefully to ensure accuracy - Verify beneficiary information to avoid unexpected claims - Seek assistance from a financial advisor or attorney if necessary - Consider alternative financial institutions with better customer service and claims processing.

Update:

On the 10th of March, I visited Old Mutual again to inquire about the policy. I was informed that the two unknown beneficiaries had not come forward to claim the benefits, not even once. I decided to claim the money again and was advised to open an estate account to facilitate the process. I comp****, and Old Mutual sent a message stating that they were working on the claim.

However, Old Mutual then requested a document containing my late mother's signature. I provided the document, but I'm now suspicious that this might be a ****. After submitting the document, Old Mutual asked me to provide the account and ID numbers of the two unknown beneficiaries again, indicating that they still won't release the money.

I'm left wondering what they did with my mother's signature and why the claim is still pending. The whole experience has been frustrating and traumatic, and I hope that others can learn from my mistakes.

Warning:

Be cautious when dealing with Old Mutual, and carefully review your policy documents to avoid similar experiences.
