Unfair treatmentA
We have sailed with Oceania on average twice a year since their inception but no more. We sailed on Marina from Barcelona to Rio , we were warned that they had had a virus onboard and so we would be late boarding, they omitted to say how much impact on the quality of the cruise the clean up would have, suffice it to say the cruise was not the 5* we have come to expect and had paid for.Although we understand that these measures have to be taken to safeguard everyone’s well being to give us the opportunity to cancel when we were onboard not before we had boarded and then only in a brief letter in the cabin was out of order. They kept telling us every day for the first 11/12 days of a 14 day cruise that someone else had come down with it so everything could not get back to normal until the ship had been clear for 48hrs. Strangely enough although the library/laundry and games room were closed the Shops and Casino weren’t . Don’t be fooled into upgrading to concierge so you get free laundry, laundry to Oceania is wash only no ironing so ,as the guest laundry was closed ,there was no ironing facilities. We complained as although not the ships fault as far as we know we thought it was handled very badly as apart from a brief note when we boarded and the cruise director coming on the in-house tv Channel to inform us that there had been another case so it would be yet another 48hrs before they could think about getting back to normal there was no apology from anyone. The crew were great during what must have been extremely hard work for them but the officers were not , they really are figure heads who can do nothing without reverting back to head office. We along with half the ship complained to Oceania who virtually told us to go away, they offered £150 each off a future cruise which was an insult and told us to go to ABTA if we weren’t happy. The thing that really annoyed us was that a Dutch couple we have met on a couple of cruises got the full cost of their cruise refunded. Needless to say we will be looking elsewhere in future. They have been taken over by Norwegian cruise lines and it was inevitable that standards would deteriorate always seems to happen
