Shame on you Ocean Basket for your Lies

A week ago last Friday my husband and I returned from holiday and as it was late and my fridge was empty we decided to go for dinner to the Ocean Basket at Glen Ballad in Glen Marais. The restaurant was quite full so we got a table on the outside close to a brick pillar but it looked romantic with the candle on the table. We thought a perfect end to our holiday. We ordered our wine first and hadn't yet decided what we wanted to eat when a manager/assistant manager approached us and said he needed to take our candle as it needed to be serviced. The candle looked perfectly fine but anyway we said he could but asked if he would bring it back and he promised he would. Our table was a bit dark to see our menu but not a huge problem as we thought the candle will be back soon. We noticed this manager/assistant manager also going to each and every table and we heard him say he was taking the candle away to service it, so there was not one candle on what must have been at least 20 tables. There's a half glass wall between the outside of the restaurant and the inside and as I looked inside I could see the waiters with all the candles that had been taken from our table and everyone else's, putting them on every patron's table on the inside of the restaurant. I was furious at this. When our waiter came to take our order I asked him why he had put our candle on someone else's table when the manager had said they were being serviced and he'd bring it back. He was a bit taken aback and said well there's going to be a power cut in a few minutes time and the people inside will be in the dark. I was gobsmacked! So your manager/owner or whoever he is **** to us and **** to the people at every single table. The candles were not needing to be serviced, what kind of ethics has your manager got? Meantime the manager had gone inside and disappeared. I mean we can see through the glass exactly what is happening...duh! My husband said to the waiter so what about us sitting out here, we will also be in the dark? He didn't know what to say. I said I'm so angry I'm going to write to Hellopeter about this. If the manager/owner can lie about this what else can he lie about? My husband demanded that he bring our candle back as we were still trying to look at the menu, which he did. A few minutes later all of the lights went out and everyone inside had a candle on the table yet the people sitting outside had nothing, we were the only table with a candle. I can't believe that someone could insult their customers' intelligence to this extent. We are reasonable human beings, if the waiter had told us there was going to be a power cut could they take some of the candles and put them inside we would have been happy to oblige but to take the lot and then lie about why your taking them, to me is despicable. The Spar Supermarket is right beside the Ocean Basket and as they had forewarning there was going to be a power cut, surely management could have afforded to buy extra R5 candles so that all their patrons had a candle and not ***** from other tables. This has put us right off ever going back there again and when I tell our friends about this they also feel the same. Shame on you Ocean Basket!!
