Ocean Basket's Disgusting and filthy service by Mark in Cavendish

To whom it may concern (Ocean Basket Group)

On the 24th of October just after 17:00pm, I was at the entrance of Ocean Basket in Cavendish (Cape Town - Claremont) to get something to eat. I stood there looking at the menu at the entrance for a few minutes without any acknowledgement. Mark who was to be at the door came to the front table twice or thrice without acknowledgement. I then continued to wait up until he came back again and only this time he acknowledge me (Strike one). At this point I'm the only customer at the entrance, while trying to chat to him people come from behind me towards the entrance and he blatantly leaves me there to attend to them (Strike two). At this stage I'm a bit shocked and feel pretty much ignored. He comes back the second time and before I could even utter a full sentence he leaves me there AGAIN!! and greets other new people coming in obviously these people all came after me but I am so disregarded (Strike three). At this point I'm thinking I'm being profiled based on the colour of my skin as how else can one explain this behaviour. I think it was on the third account that another lady who works at the branch came to assist me and asked what is that matter and that's when I told her the issue and that I would like to escalate the matter and email a complaint through.

The lovely lady assisted me with my order and I then decided to walk around the mall while I waited for my food, at this point I felt absolutely degraded, disregarded and undermined. The level of service provided was so disgusting and unspeakable to a point that I felt so unwelcomed and decided to walk around the mall instead of waiting at the branch for my order. Upon my return I receive my order and while I wait for the email address he approaches me to give me the most cold, insensitive and impersonal apology I have ever received, and during this appalling apology he cant even make proper eye contact as his eyes are everywhere else but here.

He then decides to make the first excuse and say there must have been a miscommunication. Well in order to have a miscommunication there needs to be communication of which he did not give me the time of day to give. He does not stop there, now this is the part where I felt was a bit ****** and he was just applying hard core ****** profiling. He continued to say he confused me for an Uber Driver........WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!???........... Two questions which I still want answers for from him and Ocean Basket Claremont, One, what gave or motivated him to think that I could be an Uber Driver ? Is it perhaps the colour of my skin because I'm sure if I was his race he would have NEVER uttered that. ....I was not wearing an Uber Driver vest or a bag that would indicate I'm there to collect an order I was dressed in my normal clothes. Two, even if I was an Uber driver does that mean if an Uber driver gets there first to collect food they will be disregarded like that ?......this could be why peoples orders are late.

Me reporting this to Hello Peter is the beginning of a very big conversation that I plan to start to address this matter and I will be taking it further. To think we are a progressive country with progressive people .....Boy was I wrong, never did I ever think in 2020 I would be treated as such. The service or rather the lack of service was purely disgusting to the core and absolutely unacceptable. Is this perhaps how the staff at Claremont Ocean Basket are trained???......Are they trained to profile their customers at the door?.

The service Mark provided was sickening and disgusting to say the least and not even a dog deserves that kind of treatment, staff like Mark should not even be representing such brands and worst of all be placed at the DOOR!!!!! if that's his attitude.

I urge you to please pull the camera recording to see the low filthy, disgusting and throw up service Mark provided me with at the door.....completely unspeakable. If it means I have to make an example of Mark and or Ocean Basket Claremont in highlighting the seriousness and severity of this matter I will, as this is totally unacceptable.

Consider my family, friends, associates, acquaintances warned about this behaviour at this particular branch as I would never want anyone to feel less of a human like I did. I do hope that none other Ocean Basket has staff like Mark as these are the type of things or actions that cause them to lose customers and in some cases close down business.

May this matter be treated with urgency and sensitivity.
