Ocean Basket staff are cheated of their earnings!!

I visited Ocean Basket towards the end of November 2015. I had a lovely time with my kids, and enjoyed the meal. However I was shocked to find out about some of the things that go on behind the scenes. During our meal one of the waiters knocked over a glass from my table, it was partially the fault of my child who attempted to pass the glass to the waiter but let go off it too soon. I offered to pay for the glass as I felt guilty for the waiter and to my surprise the waiter informed that it didn't matter as he would have to pay anyway. Upon pressing deeper I was informed that all waiters are charged a daily fee of R15 for breakages regardless of whether or not they break an item on that day. The waiters wages are approximately R15 an hour, so they are basically working for nothing 1 hour per day! I find this very unfair towards waiters who aren't clumsy as this R15 will add up to about R90 in a 6 day working week. <br> <br> On another note the company is also leaching off of waiters gratuities! Cash gratuities are paid to the waiter in full but all electronic payments are charged at 5% of the gratuity. This includes card payments and Zappa payments! 5% of a R20 tip is R1!
