Do not bring your young children here!
23/01/2018 My friends were visiting from Ghana so we decided to go to the ocean basket at the waterfront in Cape Town. My friends got there before me and after being seated they told us that there are no baby seats. Fair enough. They placed us in the middle of the restaurant where no other people were seated. We both have two little one year olds. Once seated the babies started to explore and went to the empty section where the tables and chairs are. They did go to the middle a few times. The apparent owner then came up to us and said it was too dangerous for them to be there and can’t they just sit on our laps. I explained how if we had baby feeding chairs, they would. Anyways on he went. The babies were crawling around and it was very quiet and they weren’t bothering anybody. The owner then came up to us and said “don’t you have nanny’s at home to look after them or something” I was so shocked at this statement that I rep**** angrily “no we don’t” He then said “well when I had small children I didn’t take them to restaurants” my response to this was “poor kids”. Our food was utterly ruined by this horrible owner at the waterfront. Ocean basket prides itself on being a “family-friendly restaurant” sadly this is not the case at the waterfront. We were told to go to “another ocean basket that is family friendly” I am absolutely appalled by this mans’ remarks and comments. We were not moved to a “safer” part of the restaurant, even though it was near empty. I’ve never been so embarrassed at a restaurant in all my life.
