Visiting this particular branch of this well known chain was the worst experience I have had in a restaurant in a long time. Starting with the very tiny ****tail rolls, only 1 per person allowed and you are charged extra if you want more, then the waiter forgetting to put our starter order through, which was only noticed when they arrived at our table with the main course, not once, but twice, but 2 different waiters who were surprised that we didn't want our mains before getting our starter! My request that the already cooked speciality fish not simply be reheated once we had our starters, was ignored, which rendered the dish inedible. When I asked for more tartare sauce, I was told that came at an additional cost too! The manager who dained to come over to us to ask if we were happy, simply rep**** with 'that is the restaurants policy' when I complained about the additional charges for ****tail rolls and tartare sauce, so I didn't even bother to explain my irritation at having had to wait for our mains to go back to the kitchen so that our starter could be ordered and brought to us and that my reheated fish was awful, I decided to vote with my feet and rather choose never to go back there again. I also told the manager I was going to review my experience to which he quipped, with a shrug, 'you must do what you must do'. After sharing this experience with a friend, I discovered they had a similar experience of starter orders not being placed and food below the standard of that experienced at other Ocean Baskets in Cape Town, but they had the benefit of a manager who cared enough to offer them a voucher for a return visit, which they never used because they couldn't bear the thought!!! Sadly, the Waterfront restaurants don't have to rely on local support as the tourists return business is unlikely. But this local will most definitely not be going back and will tell anyone who cares to listen that they should avoid this eatery at all costs!
