Type 2 Diabetes monitoring - be aware if you are a foreigner in SA

Freestyle LIbre 2 Sensors - BEWARE if you are living in South Africa but have a phone where your Apple or Android Apps are paid for from a different country, as the sensor will not be compatible with your phone and you are unable to download the South African Freestyle Libre 2 App rendering the purchase useless. In this case you have to either reregister your phone with a South African billing address (as well as deleting all your apps) or buy a new phone (expensive) or buy a Freestyle Libre 2 reader. WOW there is no warning on the items boxes or in the instruction manuals that this is the case DISGRACEFUL. After many hours of total frustration and perseverance the reps from Abbot laboratories and the bosses did provide explanation that due to licensing laws of both Apple and Freestyle Libre 2, that the only way to make it work was to get a new phone or Reader. HELPFUL but it should be there in bold print before you start. In addition if you travel overseas be aware that when the sensor runs out (after 2 weeks), you will need to buy a new sensor and either use a new reader or a new phone to get the the glucose readings. BOTTOM LINE for Type 2 Diabetics, is that the monitoring of your sugar levels is easy if your cell phone is registered with South African Apps BUT if you live in more than one country for much of the year (swallows or ex pats) you will face problems.
