Worst insurance company ever! The insurance company that you actually should not trust!!!

I bought my car on the 2nd of September which was the same day I started my insurance with Oakhurst. On the 14th I was involved in 3 car pile-up car accident whereby one of the people that hit me (and caused the most damage) drove away. I spoke to a consultant who lodged my claim. It took the insurance company 3 working days to collect my car for a quote. After that, it took them another 2 weeks to get the quote for the damages to my car. This was after I had called them everyday for a week requesting the status of my claim and demanding that they return my car. They refused to return my car until the quote was finalised and they had many excuses as to why they quote took long such as the accident was a 3-car pileup and therefore the claim would take longer to process and that the assessor made mistake with my claim and the mistake had to be rectified.

After finally getting the claim, the company then multip**** my excess by 3 times because I am under the age of 30 and I was claiming within the first 6 months of starting my policy. None of which I was told about when starting the policy and none of which I read in my policy.

I decided to cancel the claim and get my car fixed on my own as they already took long to process my claim and the difference between the excess and the quoted amount was very little.

They cancelled the claim before returning my car and therefore refused to return my car so I had to make time to go and collect my car. Furthermore, it turns out they they did not take my car to an approved BMW panel beater and the quoted amount from a BMW panel beater far exceeded the quote that I was told by them over the phone.

I then sent an email asking what the process would be to cancel my insurance with Oakhurst and they did not respond. However, a week after debiting the October premium, they sent me an SMS saying that my insurance policy has been cancelled.

I was not even partially reimbursed for my policy being cancelled so soon in the month and as it stands, I have paid insurance for 2 companies for one vehicle.

I have never been so disappointed and I hope that someone else learns from this and does not join this insurance company!

Dear Miss Mbatha

We have concluded our investigation and it was established that:

You were involved in an accident on 14 September 2017 and the claim was registered with the insurer on the 15 September 2017.

The vehicle was referred to a repairer whereby a quotation and photos were sourced and sent to the insurer on 19 September 2017.

The claims process was carried out within a reasonable time.

A cash settlement, based on the damages of the insured vehicle less excess was offered to you.

We confirm that the excesses app**** to the claim was in accordance with the terms and conditions of your policy.

You declined the offer and elected to cancel the claim.

When you elected to cancel the claim, the insurer no longer had the duty to indemnify you. Therefore you had to collect the insured vehicle at your own cost.

When the claim was processed in the policy was still active and as such the premium was debited.

We have however refunded a pro-rata premium back to you.

Regards
