What do we have insurance for?

I have had insurance now with a company for 3 years and still going. But I have never claimed anything from them, and Im a excellent payer. Oakhurst insurance, Vaal versekering is the company handling my insurance.

My wifes ring got ******, after a 2-5 min session wear it was not worn. The ring is a specialized item on my insurance and is worn on a daily basis, and NOT on special occasions.

The ring goes missing after a few members who were fixing my roof at the time, and now I get the clauses thrown at me. Anything above R 15 000.00 should be in the safe and mounted to the wall and floor. I do understand this if one does not wear it on a daily basis.

I do have other specified items which is kept in the safe, but those are used on special occasions and are not specified. So now the big questions is raised....how do you go about this?

If i walk into my house I run to the safe to put away my ring or do I do what??

If you can advise me it will be kind.

Dear Wikusvz
Thank you for bringing your grievance to our attention.
Your insurance policy terms and conditions dictate that whenever a specified piece of jewellery with a value of more than R15 000.00 is not worn, it must be placed in a lockable safe and that particular safe must be a wall- or floor-mounted Category 1 or equivalent safe.
There are unfortunately no exception to the above condition as the policy specifically states that there will be no cover in an event of a claim should the above not be adhered to.
We therefore support the insurer's stance with regards to the declination of the claim and advise that the declination will be upheld.
We sincerely hope that the above is in order.
Kind regards
