Avoiding to pay what they supposed to.

I have a comprehensive, zero excess car insurance with Oakhurst insurance. I put in a claim and was asked to get two quotations from registered panelbeaters, One quote was about R56 500 and another R70 000. Now at first their assessor, assessed the R56 500 quotation and told me he was happy with everything and he will speak with the insurance and I should expect a call from them. Next he called me to tell me that Midrand (area where I stay) panel beaters are expensive and should look for one in the SOUTH and get parts (including a door) from Kia (save a car program) in MENLYN. And then I was sent a assessed quote of R20 000. And was told that they will deduct R2 500 which means that I only get R18 000 to fix my car. I am very frustrated, they avoid paying me what they supposed to. Why cover me knowing that I reside in Midrand and they cannot afford services from Midrand.

Dear Emma

We refer to your complaint logged on 18 March 2019, contents of which have been noted.

You had a claim for an accident that occurred on 10 March 2019 under your Oakhurst Lite Policy which was authorised for settlement.

The policy wording read with the policy schedule contains the contract between yourself and the insurer. We confirm that you have agreed to the terms and conditions of your policy, and all endorsed policy documents were emailed throughout the life time of your policy.

As per our records, you have a Comprehensive (Cash Settlement Only) cover, whereby the Insurer would indemnify you based on what they would have spent on repairs to your vehicle, using their preferred suppliers/repairers, in the event of a valid claim. This process is explained in details in your policy documents.

An excess is the first amount payable by you in the event of a valid claim.  You have a Zero Basic Excess, however, there are additional/penalty excesses which may apply depending on the merits of your claim. Kindly note that same is stated in your policy schedule.

We confirm that your claim was processed in line with the terms and conditions of your policy.

We trust you find the above in order.

Regards,

Oakhurst Resolutions Team
