Unbecoming attitude

The university of north west Mafikeng campus’s staff is very bad when coming to conduct with the clients.

In 2016 My brother in law app**** to study at this institution as he was in grade 12, he did everything in time and received a response that he was accepted pending his final grade 12 results, unfortunately he passed but did not meet minimum university entrance, in 2017 he then went to upgrade his results and during the same year he reapp**** for admission and received the same response, this time he passed well and went to the university on the 1st day of reopening, he was then told to go combine his previous results with the current one, which he did, he was told to wait for confirmation of his admission as the admissions are done by the potchefstroom campus, he waited and waited until i adviced him to go back to campus and enquire about admission status.

He went to campus and waited in a long que only to be told that his application was unsuccessful because he did not pass with a university entrance, he then produced his combined results as proof of university entrance and that he qualifies for admission to his chosen field of study, he was then told that, space is full because “those whites at potch don’t care about blacks”, he then called me crying saying he has done all that was required, in time, for him to be enrolled at the University but he is now told the space is full.

I called the Mafikeng campus and received a very bad service from the nameless lady on the other side of the line, she told me that I was not special and that if space is full it’s full my brother must just wait like the rest and that it’s not her fault that white at potch just site all day smoking and drinking coffee and only assisting their white brothers and sisters, when I ask for her name and the call reference number she then hanged up on me.

I then called the potch campus to enquire about this admission issue, I spoke to a very professional “white” lady by the name of Jessica, I must say she is very professional and as a white lady, what the Mafikeng campus staff portray whites at potch to be is a fallacy and divisive. Anyway I explained everything to this lady and she assured me that my brother’s staff was never sent to them, she then continued to help me over the phone until my brother received his acceptance letter.

My brother’s application always went hand in glove with the accommodation application, he went to mafikeng to register and he did so successfully but then when he wanted to pay for accommodation he was told it’s full and he is placed on the waiting list, now the accommodation is full but it’s the incompetence of the university that he is not getting accommodation,he called me again to explain this and I called potch and asked to speak to Jessica as I loved her service, I explained the situation to her and she told me that unfortunately he has no power to can act as that was not her department, she then gave me the contact details of the head of accommodation at Mafikeng Mr Freedom Gwele.

I called and a lady with a very poor telephone etiquette told me he is unavailable I should call 30 minutes later, I did that later and when she answered she told me that he is busy and she would be able to help me, I explained my brother’s story but with an attitude she told me that admission and accommodation are not the same department and my brother must just wait because he app**** late, I tried numerous times to explain to her that the fault lies with the university and not my brother but she continued telling me that he must just wait, I asked for her name and she hanged up on me, called her again and she gave me her name, Angelique Freeman.

This lady is very relaxed and unable to carry out her duties, his issue needs to be resolved in time as the academic year is to start soon.

I must say Jessica Laubscher is a very professional lady and the Mafikeng campus needs someone like her so it can be sorted ,the staff there is very unprofessional and they run this university like a ****a shop, this is a public institution and we, the public should receive the best service ever, I studied at the university of Limpopo and have never experienced such incompetence, if this matter is not resolved in time that classes resume I will have no choice but to go the legal route.
