Watch strap poor workmanship

I bought a nice lorus watch at NWJ, but the genuine leather strap snapped within 5 months of purchase. Not only was the strap not under guarantee, but they said it would take 8 weeks to replace the strap and then they will still have to charge me for it. I expect when paying so much for a watch that it would at least last longer.
