Resizing a ring turned into a nightmare
My experience with NWJ Hillcrest was awful to say the least. My now fiancé and I took his Grandmother’s 60+ Year old plus Engagement ring to NWJ Hillcrest to be resized on 20th August 2022. We were told it will take 2 weeks. 2 weeks came and went, I got an sms to say there will be a SLIGHT delay. I phoned to find out how long the SLIGHT delay will be, get told 2 and a half weeks. 2 and a half weeks came and went, still nothing. Phoned again to ask what is going on, no there's another SLIGHT delay of 1 week. I told them straight this is unacceptable, I want the ring back to take it somewhere else. Nope, they can't do that, rings get sent in batches to their workshop and only when the last ring of the batch is complete it will be sent back ****tle did I know, due to April floods their local workshop was closed! If they had disclosed this from the beginning I definitely would have went somewhere else!). I asked for a contact at Head Office. Upon calling Head Office, I find out : No one wants to say what the delay is with the ring, and the ring is in JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG. NWJ Hillcrest is in HILLCREST, KWAZULU NATAL. We were getting engaged on Saturday, now I get told the ring is not even in the SAME PROVINCE? I was almost in tears on the phone. Get told I will be called back in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later, all of a sudden the ring is actually ready and will be couriered off that day (However, no one tells me I will be paying for the courier on top of the resizing, well done on disclosing that NWJ) and will arrive back in Hillcrest the following day for me to collect. The following day comes, I waited almost the entire day to hear from NWJ what is going on. Eventually I get irritated enough to phone them and ask what is going on (They told me they would contact me when it arrived so I could collect it). When I phone, suddenly its been there almost the whole day. What a ****ing nightmare and a half this was. Please don't ever use NWJ to resize rings, very stressful experience. To add insult to injury, when I went to collect the ring, the one consultant asked me if this was a promise ring. Girl, we stated when we came in on 20th August this was an ENGAGEMENT RING, we are in our late twenties, not teenagers. Further to this, when we took the ring in to NWJ to be resized, we brought it in its own box. When we finally went to collect the ring, they gave it back to me in a PLASTIC PACKET. I asked where is the box my ring came in, they told me ‘Oh, somewhere in the back probably’. They were not even interested in finding the box or offered me a new one to put it in, I had to ask for another box to store the ring in. Do yourself a favour, do not use NWJ.
