I ordered and fully paid for a custom chair from Nursery in a Box costing more than R16,000, with an expected lead time of 2–4 weeks. The chair was only delivered more than 2 months later after repeated delays, shifting delivery dates, internal miscommunication, excuses about material shortages, and extremely poor communication throughout the process. On the day the chair was finally supposed to be delivered, I was informed that the wood colour was significantly lighter than the product advertised online. After yet another delay, I was told they were not comfortable staining it darker, but that it still looked “stunning”. After months of frustration and constant follow-ups, I eventually accepted delivery because I was exhausted by the process. Unfortunately, the problems did not end there. The dimensions advertised on the Nursery in a Box website are materially inaccurate, with the actual chair being substantially larger than advertised. As a result, the chair does not fit into the nursery it was specifically purchased for. I raised this directly with Mieke Ross, owner of Nursery in a Box, and gave the her the opportunity to resolve the matter before escalating it further. I was informed that they “cannot take responsibility” for the inaccurate dimensions and that they consider the order “complete” and the matter “closed”. For a premium-priced custom product, the service, communication, accuracy of information, and overall customer experience were deeply disappointing. This has honestly been one of the worst purchasing experiences I’ve ever had. Spare yourself the frustration and purchase elsewhere.
