Not Worth Spending R160 at Nu Metro Cinemas Anymore Because Of Poor Quality Video Projection

When I was younger, I used to frequent the cinema almost every other weekend. Even before the pandemic, I stopped going to the cinemas ever since they switch from 35mm film to digital because of poor projection quality. I decided to treat myself this week and watch the new Jurassic World Dominion film in 3D at Nu Metro Canal Walk. I bought the tickets cash at the till and service was very good from staff. This is the second time I have been to this cinema since the pandemic. We got tickets for cinema 11, but the whole experience was extremely disappointing because the image quality was very poor. The film was in a full screen format 1.78:1 but it did not fill the whole screen. There were grey bars all around the image making it window boxed. But the most distracting thing was the heavy grain on the screen and blurry image quality. I am used to clean, crisp crystal clear images at home on my 1080p video projector. All my friends and family have already switched to 4K TV sets. The only positive thing about the cinema was that the audio was presented in Dolby Atmos which was nice. I am avid film buff and I don't mind spending R160 for a ticket, but it is not worth it if Nu Metro are using cheap video projectors for exhibiting blockbuster films. Seriously, my old DVDs at home had better resolution than the 3D images in this cinema. Earlier this year, I watched the new Spiderman film in 3D at Nu Metro Canal Walk as well, but it was a different cinema. The fuzzy 3D images was also very distracting and there was no masking above and below the film that was in 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Clearly Nu Metro have no interested or understand the importance of masking to improve contrast. It is a waste of money to pay R160 to watch fuzzy and grainy images at cinema. I would rather wait for the VOD release or buy the bluray disc for R399 and enjoy the film at home with my family the way it was intended to be screened. Nu Metro has a habit of not listening to their customers. I hope they read this complaint because they have lost a valuable customer. I will never go back to Nu Metro cinemas again. I think I will wait and watch the new Avatar film in 3D at possibly a Ster Kinefor cinema. This is reminder to Nu Metro that customers at home have high definition TVs such as 1080p or 4K UHD. You cannot expect us to pay R160 and then expect us to enjoy films at cinema with poor video quality. If you want our business, invest in better quality projectors. You doing more damage to your cinema because majority of customers simply stay away and don't take the time to explain why they not going there anymore.
