Nu Debt's failure to action a mandate I've signed, and another legal threat from them

I have cancelled my rain subscription in April 2023 and, as far as I can remember, I owed them no money (especially as they would have had suspended my internet access had I defaulted monthly payments).

In June 2024, I received a text message from Nu Debt, stating that I owe rain 3 months' subscription fees (R1587.00). Please note that this is the first I've heard of an outstanding amount.

I phoned NuDebt on 12 June 2024 (reference and agent name available). The agent verified the rain account and said that I have not used any data in the 3rd month and adjusted the amount 'owed' by me to R1058.00. I signed a telephonic mandate on that day that that the debit order will go off my FNB account on 28/29 June 2024.

After receiving another text message demanding payment (for the wrong amount) on 25 June), I phoned Nu Debt again (agent name available) and they assured me that the text message was a mistake and that the mandate was in place and that the debit order would go off on 28/29 June.

The debit order did NOT go off.

I was getting ready for major surgery and did not follow up.

Since 2 July I have recuperated and did not have the energy to follow up Nu Debt's computer system glitches/incompetence/communication gaps.

On 19 July I received an email from Nu Debt, a Notice of Action (for the wrong amount). I have just rep**** that I am expecting a call from then shortly to sort out this mess. I have not had my mobile phone on since I am still recuperating (doctor's note available) but will make sure it is on.

I have also informed them that I will log my complaint here, and failing a call (and an apology), I WILL appoint a lawyer since I feel at mercy of their, and rain's, glitches/incompetence/communication gaps.

I therefore expect another call from Nu Debt soon and will make sure my phone is on (even though I am still recuperating). As an aside, rain has also contacted me during the last two weeks (by text message) to inform me to pay (the wrong amount). Do these companies not communicate with each other?

I take matters like these seriously, since I do not want my credit record affected. I expect the same seriousness and professionalism from companies like Nu Debt.

Reviewer Update
I have had NO response to 4 emails sent, only a final notice received by email yesterday.
I am now paying the full (wrong) amount just to make this go away.

I am extremely unhappy with this business, and the way they ignore communications and the harassment they are guilty of in their threatening emails.

I will never do business with rain Networks again and will make this clear on X as well. This has been the most annoying experience for me as a consumer EVER.
