Charging clients for employee error

I had a contract with Altech Autopage which expired in 2014. Just before the contract ended, can't remember the month, i received a call from them asking if i want to upgrade. I then told them no i will not be upgrading and can they please cancel my contract. They said i should call myself and cancel. I called and gave my ID number (since i did not know the phone numbers off by heart) and asked to cancel the contract. A few months later i get a statement stating that i am owing them. I called and the person i spoke to said only one contract was cancelled. I asked how this is so because i had called and given my ID number and requested cancellation. This person i spoke to did not have any reason for me, i then told them to go and check their recordings since they record phone calls and i gave them the number i used to call (i do not have all these details anymore since it happened in 2014. I had kept them till the end of 2014). After that phone call i never received anymore statements of any outstanding amounts from Autopage. Now 2017 i start getting emails and smses from a company called Nudebt with ref ********** 1 stating that i am owing Altech Autopage. I tried numerous times to get in touch with them but i did not succeed. Finally an email came through from Rodney Motsogo with the 2014 statement attached to make payment. I responded to him telling bim what happened. I then called him again on 15 Feb 2017 on number ***. He told me i need to call Autopage and sort it out with them, of which i then told him that is absurd for me to call Autopage when they as Nudebts are sending me emails and sms not Autopage. He said it is an instruction from Autopage and i told him to go back and get the proper strory as i will not be paying for their negligence. Plus i also do not have records from 2014.
