Appalling customer service for several months

Hi, I am utterly appalled by the service I am receiving from VW Paarl. This coming from someone who owned three VW vehicles before. Three years ago I purchased a brand new Polo Gti from VW (NTT) Paarl. I am a representative and spend most of my day on the road. Over three months ago, I experienced an EPC issue with the car. The EPC light went on and the car started jerking at times - I made a booking for it to be checked out. The car went in on the 15th of February, received the car back the same day with the Service guys telling me that the car is fine and in working condition. I should just restart the car once it started jerking (they called this a missfire). They just needed to order a part for the car (I was not informed what part it was) which would arrive in a few days time. After not hearing anything for a few days I called the service guy who told me the part hasn’t arrived yet but they would call me once it has. Received a call the following week and arranged for the car to go back in. Drove to the dealership (50kms away) just for them to tell me the wrong part had arrived and they will let me know when the correct part arrived (this happened a year ago as well where another part had to be replaced!). I continued to use the car since I was told that this was fine, and a few weeks later (14th March) while I was on my way for a business meeting the car wouldn't start. The vehicle broke after consulting with the dealership and it has happened due to VW’s negligence! I called VW Paarl who told me I had to return the car. I explained that I could not drive the car at all and was told they would get back to me. Called the service guy who said he still didn’t have an answer. After not receiving any help or communication from VW Paarl, I then called VW SA’s customer service and asked them to arrange for the car to be collected from me as it was not in working condition and to be provided with a courtesy car. It just seemed fair since they knew what the problem was (EPC) and did not do anything about it. They then collected the car and towed it to the dealership and I was told they would inform me when they would have a courtesy car available. Called them the next day since I did not hear anything, they gave me one after once again having to ask (Friday, March 16th), this was vital as I needed a vehicle to do my work. Few days later they called me to say that they need the car back for a viewing and they will replace it with another car. A salesman then came to replace it with a car which was filthy and had a broken air conditioner. I only discovered this when I had to drive it. March in Cape Town is still summer and it turned into a daily sweaty situation! I informed them of this and asked to be provided with a car that has a working a/c and they said they will get back to me soonest. Days go by – no response! I kept having to phone for an update, asking to speak to the service department as well as the managers yet sadly no luck for any response. I then called VW SA again and after two weeks of calling almost every day, they eventually replaced the car. During this time, I was still not provided with any update with regards to my own car and they just told me they were still waiting for a part. Weeks go by, no update. Called VW SA again for an update and the only thing they could tell me was that they were still waiting on the dealership to get back to them. I eventually contacted the Salesman from whom I bought the car and he told me that they required a special tool to tune the turbo and this tool consists of three parts and they were just waiting for the last part to arrive which was on back order. This was the first time that anyone told me exactly what the situation was or what part exactly they were waiting for. I could not understand why no one could just tell me this in the first place – it would have made me so much more understanding and is certainly better than me having to phone and ask for an update every single time. First I was told it would take 4 weeks to arrive, then 6 weeks and then eventually 8 weeks by three different people. This was frustrating as anyone would imagine! I asked them to contact another dealership for help and the answer was that this is not possible as the other dealerships did not want to assist. Yes, “did not” and “could not”. Again, weeks go by and I receive neither update nor response. I would leave messages for the service department, managers and no one would get back to me which is shocking for a company of this magnitude. I called VW SA again to ask for an update as the dealership was still not getting back to me and their response was very poor. They would apologize and promise to get back to me but end up only doing this at certain times. There were many times where I actually had to phone them back a few days later to ask them for an update. The lady found this amusing and would giggle at times when I asked her questions about the case. I found this extremely unprofessional. This eventually just carried on. I eventually found out the person who was in charge of the car’s repair had resigned and someone else was working there. This new person had no idea what was going on. Last week I called again and they told me they would get back to me. I received a call back Wednesday May 16th and the lady from VW SA started a conference call between myself, her and the dealership manager/principle. He then confirmed that the part has arrived in South Africa and they would soon receive it and start working on the car. I called yesterday May 21st for an update and I was told then told the part has arrived; the turbo has been replaced and tuned but the EPC issue still exists. This frustrates me so much. The fact that I have to keep phoning to ask for updates for almost three months. The constant lack of communication, empty promises and being blatantly ignored. What I cannot understand is why the initial problem still existed after the car has just been parked at the dealership collecting dust. The same issue which I booked the car in for in the first place. The Service guy then said it might take another week. I am extremely unhappy with the way this has been handled and the service I had been getting. I am appalled and disgusted. I understand that sometimes these things can take time but three months? I would have at least appreciated communication on the matter instead of having to keep on calling them to ask for an update every single time. I will never return to the dealership. I have been a loyal customer and have been keen on trading the car for another model but why would I ever want to purchase another car from VW if this is the service I have been receiving. I have been paying for something that I cannot even use! This includes car installments as well as insurance for three months – this is absolutely ridiculous! My company provides a fuel allowance linked to my GTi and since my vehicle has been booked in, I’ve been placed under tremendous financial strain as the I needed to carry the cost for fuel as my car has been at VW for a unacceptable duration. Has anyone ever had a situation like this before? Three months is a quarter of a year. It’s literally a season and I am still left with no car and lack communication.
