Utterly disgusted
A week ago my mother in law's dog was injured and she contacted the SPCA Grassy Park asking for medical assistance and also mentioning that she is a pensioner and does not have transport to deliver or collect the dog she was advised that the dog will be collected and delivered and she is obligated only to make a donation to the society However I have made numerous calls to ask for the dog to be delivered and promises have been made by 3 ladies assuring that the dog will be delivered as she requested. The last young lady however had such an attitude and insisted that R1150 needs to be paid in order for the dog to be released. this was not initially disclosed and this is ill treatment of the elderly. The dog is my mother in law's companion and is well looked after , however with this attitude from the SPCA it seems that there is something bigger than the picture seen.
We thank you for bringing your complaint to our attention. We take every complaint seriously. The SPCA is a charitable organisation that solely relies on the generosity of the public. Our hospital strives to serve the animals from impoverished and disadvantaged communities with the best treatment possible. Junior, the dog, has been in our care from 18/08/2020 and required ongoing treatment due to the severity of his injuries. As part of the treatment, we had to take x-rays, clean the wounds and change the bandages twice daily. You can imagine that this intensive treatment does not come cheap. The R1150 quoted is minimal compared to what a private veterinary practice would charge. Our receptionist spoke to your family member on 27/08 and informed them she would seek the waiver from her Manager, as she does not have the Authority to give discounts. We apologise if you perceived our receptionist as rude. This was certainly not the intention. Also, the SPCA does not offer an ambulance service and normally does not collect animals for treatment. We felt sorry for your elderly mother in law and agreed to assist her because we care. If this treatment were all about money for us, then the account would have been far higher. Animal welfare will always come first, and Junior is safely recovering in our care. We do trust you find this in order.
