This is no Help or understanding organization.

My tenant had a misunderstanding with my dad an she gave her dog to scpa to look after for a few days, and when my dad went to go explain the situation to then regarding what had happened and she was never meant to give the dog up they refused to give him the dog before he paid R600 for the dog!!! They had absolute no understanding or was not even willing to compromise with him. They are just after the money! When my dad demanded to see the dog it didnt even look like the dog that he knew, it was sad and had absolutely no energy. I refuse to support the spca ever again. He had to pay the R600 for the dog which was not even there a day!!

Dear Monique

We apologise for the delay in response as we were only made aware of your post now. To clarify when animals are surrendered to the SPCA the person surrendering completes an Admission form and signs a Statement of Surrender which clearly states that they relinquish all rights to the animal to the SPCA. The SPCA can therefore not return the animal to the person if they change their mind. The person would have to adopt the animal back. This is to ensure that the animal is returned to a responsible, safe and loving home and to ensure that the animal does not find itself in the same situation again. It is very stressful for animals as they do not understand why they are left at the SPCA and we therefore need to protect them and speak for them.

We trust this clarifies.
