SPCA unwilling to help with adoption.

My brother wanted to adopt a dog (Staffie female) at the Mokopane SPCA, after filling in al the forms, paying the fees and passing the home inspection, the manager requested that he had to bring his 2 Basset Hound puppies for a meet and greet along with a written letter from a veterinarian that his own 2 puppies will be sterilized in due time, otherwise no adoption will take place. The meet and greet we can fully understand, but is the sterilization of his own dogs according to the SPCA protocol?

Taking into consideration that my mom and brother travelled 300km for a meet and greet, the manager took the dog away after barely 5mins of “meet and greet”. According to him the body language of the dog is not right. How can he make such an assumption after barely 5mins, the Staffie has already spent 4months in the kennels, was sterilized the day before and wasn’t allowed off her leash. Do you think this is fair towards the poor dog?

He continued further stating he would rather “put down” the staffie. Why will the SPCA rather euthanize a dog then giving it a chance of a better life on a farm? He refused to assist us any further! He had a rude tone of voice and accused us of beging too emotionally involved with the dog!

So my mom and my brother had to drive back another 300km empty handed - no dog, no future plan and they also did not receive their money back. After many many tears, my mom decided that she will adopt the poor dog, sitting in the kennels - after stating that she has no other dogs, he asked if she had a family - now this manager wants us (the familiy) to take leave from school/work, drive 300km to come for a meet and greet with the dog! Is this standard protocol? Because I have most certainly never heard of this before. It almost feels like the manager does not want the dog te be adopted?

We are prepared to walk the extra mile for this dog in providing it with the best possible home, but the Mokopane SPCA is not willing to do the same.

I have raised my concerns and complaints to the National SPCA, but NOBODY have came back to me!
