Spca pathetic service

our dog was knocked when a idiotic driver jumped the pavement and hit him while he was on hes leash being walked by my son..the car sped off..the poor dog had bones sticking out hes leg and blood was pouring out...spca contacted as needed to treat him urgent but they full of stories like they closed yet they have a number online for after hour emergencies..was told to go to a vet which the cost is 1000rand they tell u upfront for consult..spca and vets are more interested in money than helping poor animals..what do we do in emergencies like this..accidents happen at odd times and we don't have cash on hand or i would gladly pay the cost to get my baby treated but now he must sit with broken bones cause spca is closed and dont treat animals after hours and vets that are open want money upfront..and these people call themselves animal *****s..pathetic really and whats worse this so called kind individuals at the spca are quick to refer you to costly vets..

Good day

Please note that not all SPCAs have in-house veterinarians and rely on the private veterinarians in the town to assist. Almoning assistance is for the indigent (poor) and proof of income (3 months bank statement), identification and residence must be provided when applying. This assistance is not free as veterinary procedures cost money but a reduced rate is negotiated with the Vet.

We trust this clarifies and do hope you have sought the necessary treatment for your dog as it is an offence to deny your pet veterinary care by allowing it to suffer.

Kind regards Society Liaison Unit National Council of SPCAs

well good cover up story i bet that is a well rehe****d reply given to many complaints..fact remains that this line of bull has issues that don't address the real issues on hand..you talk about assistance offered and documents needed to apply for this assistance but what happens to the injured animal in the time that it takes to apply for this assistance and it being reviewed and granted or rejected ..must the poor animal suffer while this process is taking place..yes no doubt the spca requires funding from people but the procedures now in place is whats causing the spca to be over run with animals that they cant cope with in terms of feeding and housing and treating..in my specific case my dog who we had from 4weeks old that we found abandoned at that age we brought up from the time when he never even opened hes eyes..we fed him with a syringe and cared for him and took him through the steps that they go through from milk to solids to training to..basically we brought him up like 1 would do a child..he had the best of food the best of care he was treated like a child at home..never wanted anything..hes healthy and friendly..in other words well taken care of..sadly as accidents happen he was knocked by someone who sped off..from absolutely fine and happy 1 minute to hurt in a second..as this happened at a odd hour and odd time of the month i tried every vet and animal clinic i could find for help..i asked these people for help i asked for a payment plan to help my baby i would pay i dont care the cost as long as he is ok..i was turned down at every turn..the dog suffered that night and we sat up with him comforting him and trying our best to make the pain go away..we did not sleep the whole night thats what he meant to us..the next day i called more vets more clinics same story again and hes leg was worse overnight..this is my baby my child and would you sit and see your child in pain..i asked for advice from people of what i can do..spca does not treat injured animals on sunday as no vet available and im told the same thing take him to westville animal clinic which as i mentioned refused to give me a payment plan or treat my baby if i did not have the cash...at the end of hope we handed him in as a stray as that is the only way spca would at least see him and possibly treat him..i gave up my right to a child i had raised from 4weeks to 11months just so he could get help as hard as that was with no other option left..now you tell me its a crime to withhold treatment..where was i going to get treatment when nobody wanted to help us and he was hurt..its so hard as we miss him so much we cant even sleep eat and depressed without him..he had everything a good home well fed well loved a big yard love everything..now he is at the spca with the hundreds of other abandoned animals and its not hes fault..now that is my story imagine how many other animals in the spca have a similar story..
