SPCA Kempton Park - Useless and heartless

If I can give a 0 I would. Kyle is useless!!! I don't even know how you call yourself SPCA!!! There is a dog that is jumping walls in my dad's neighbourhood and we've called them hundreds of times to come and do something because he is killing all the dogs in the neighbourhood and has bit a child as well. We have called ekurhuleni and metro as well just for someone to help us! My dad's dog just survived the 1st time and had a big vet bill, and today he died because the dog bit him again and this time he made sure our dog is dead!! Our dog was living in fear and so scared he stayed under a table for shelter from this dog and was shivering permanently! Kyle just says he cannot get to the dog!!! What an excuse!!! So if you cannot get to the dog then you throw up your hands and say sorry there is nothing I can do!! What did you actually do???? This was reported numerous times and you did absolutely NOTHING!! You contributed to our dog being killed!!!!! You have 0 care for animals and now our dog is dead!! Hope you are happy now and sleep good at night knowing you did nothing!!!

Dear Disappointed C,

We understand your frustration and are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of your neighbours’ three dogs.

However, we strongly reject the accusations that the Kempton Park SPCA has been heartless, negligent or failed to act.

Our Inspectorate has attended the properties on numerous occasions and made every reasonable effort to resolve this matter. We repeatedly engaged with the owner, requested improvements to the fencing and explained the serious consequences should the dog attack another animal, child or person. Unfortunately, despite our warnings, the owner remained uncooperative and refused to surrender the dog voluntarily.

During our inspections, no welfare concerns were identified that would justify confiscation under the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962. The SPCA cannot simply remove an animal without lawful grounds.

We also provided your father and affected neighbours with EMPD contact numbers. Furthermore, our Inspectorate personally contacted EMPD and followed up regarding this matter. EMPD is responsible for enforcing the relevant municipal by-laws, including provisions intended to protect residents, their families and animals from potential dangers on their own properties.

Our Inspectorate did not ignore this matter. We investigated, repeatedly approached the owner, explained the risks and involved the appropriate authorities.

We respect your right to express dissatisfaction. However, accusing dedicated inspectors of incompetence when they have exhausted the available avenues within their legal authority is unfair.

The Kempton Park SPCA remains committed to protecting animals, preventing suffering and serving our community, even when legal limitations prevent the outcome people expect.
