Spca Booysens HORRIFIC experience

Between the 24th & 28th of June my Dog had broken 3 toe nails. The first time was on Saturday night and it was pretty severe, so much so that i took her to the new south veterinary clinic at 20:00 at night. It was bleeding and she was in noticeable pain hence me seeking immediate medical attention for her. After 10 minutes of seeing the vet we were on our merry way home, toe nails removed and bandaged up, pain ****ers and anti-biotics in hand and a R1059 later. Got home and she was her happy old self jumping around and playing.

Unfortunately she broke another nail on the 28th of June (which wasn't half as bad as the previous break) this time it was early in the morning and i thought I’d stop by the spca as i do have an account with them (and not wanting to pay a R1000 to remove a nail) I arrived at the booysens spca at 07:40 (opening time is 08:00) thinking i will be in first and out quickly... Boy was i sadly mistaken, i booked in first and payed for consultation of R450 before i could even see a vet, after paying i was kindly told a vet will be with me shortly. While waiting they helped several other clients that got there long after myself. Finally after 11am i finally got to see a vet who was adamant that my dog needs to be booked into theatre to remove the nail, which i was very reluctant to do and asked why would theatre be needed for something so small like a broken toe nail. After some time and forcing me to leave my dog there(which i didn't want to do)i was told i could fetch her at 13:00. So already stressed from the long wait and visibly worked up i left her there so that she can be attended to.

When i phoned at 13:00 to check up i got told that no i can't fetch her as there was "complications" and when asking for further information no one could tell me what these "complications" were, further more when i asked if someone can physically check up on her and give me visual confirmation that she is fine, i was simply told that the staff that pick up the phone are not allowed to go the back to check on animals and i got this run around for 30 minutes. Fearing the worst because of the lack of information supp****, I then got in my car and physically went there and i got told the same story. No one can go to the back and tell me if my dog is okay or not. I was then told i can fetch my dog the next day at 10 am. Once again to my utter disgust when i got there the next i was told that their "system hasn't updated" and i can't collect my dog until payment is made which will be at 13:00.

I was very upset about the poor service and long waiting time, and when speaking to management you just get a care free "it is what it is and there is nothing you can do about it attitude"

So when i finally got the bill to pay it came to a total for R1550... To remove ONE freaking toe nail!!!!!????

Shocking service, poor customer experience, especially from the coloured lady with the short blond hair behind the cashier desk (you have the people s****s of a rock, you are rude and useless in your role) Old fossilized leadership and management style, old outdated systems, almost like the system is designed to inflict maximum stress in the animals and their owners. I believe that service delivery starts at the top and with the people in charge. Being a manager in a customer service delivery department. It starts from with management. So if your staff on the floor don't even have basic people s****s and understand that they are dealing with people "children" and family members, they shouldn't be working in this type of enviroment. All the staff do is add more stress to an already stressful situation.

They use to care about animals now it's like they just care about money. Should have taken my dog back to the private vet, would have cost less and been a less traumatic experience for me and my dog. I have donated money, books, dog food and much more over the years to them. Needless to say i will not be going back and i will not be donating anything again.
