I’m honestly really disappointed with the experience I had while trying to adopt a dog. I was told that they only allow adoptions if the dog is going to be kept indoors. I understand wanting the best for the animals, but I don’t think it’s fair to completely shut out people who, for religious or personal reasons, can’t keep dogs inside the house.
I’ve had dogs before who lived outdoors, and they were happy, healthy, and very well cared for. Just because a dog lives outside doesn’t mean it’s not loved or looked after properly.
It’s frustrating that they’d rather keep these dogs in small kennels than let them go to a home where they’ll be safe and loved, just because of a blanket rule. It feels like they’re missing the bigger picture of what the point of adoption is

We truly appreciate your interest in adopting and understand how disheartening this experience must have been. Our SPCA operates autonomously and follows specific policies designed with the long-term safety and well-being of our animals in mind. One of these policies requires that adopted dogs sleep indoors at night. While we understand that many people choose to keep dogs outdoors, this policy was developed as a precaution informed by the very real risks of dog theft, poisoning, and neglect that sadly exist in our communities. Our priority is the welfare and safety of the animals. By implementing this policy, we aim to proactively protect them from potentially harmful situations. It is not intended as a judgment on anyone’s ability to love or care for a pet. We understand that not everyone agrees with this policy and that it may mean turning away well-meaning potential adopters.
