Poor Treatment
I reached out to SPCA Brakpan regarding a dog that is not being well taken care of and I have received any successful response from them the poor dog is still here being ill treated and neglected. Filthy where it stays, no sense of affection given to the dog. It’s just appalling and then when it gets reported, even then the SPCA doesn’t seem to care.

We take every complaint regarding animal welfare seriously and respond to each one in accordance with our legal mandate and investigation procedures. Upon receiving this complaint, our Inspectors responded immediately and conducted an on-site investigation. At the time, it was determined that the owner required education and assistance, which was provided. No grounds for immediate removal were identified during that visit. A subsequent request was received to collect the dog; however, when our Inspectors attended the property, the owner confirmed that no such request had been made. Despite this, we continued to monitor the situation. When a second complaint was received indicating deteriorating conditions, our Inspectors again attended the property, issued the necessary notices, and scheduled a follow-up visit. At the follow-up inspection, the dog was no longer present on the premises. During the investigation, it was also brought to our attention that the complaint stemmed from a family dispute. Throughout the process, communication was maintained with the complainant, and the planned actions were explained. The Brakpan SPCA must assess each case individually to determine whether removal is legally justified or whether education and support are the appropriate course of action. While this may not always align with the expectations of those reporting concerns, the welfare of the animal and adherence to the law remain our priority. We encourage anyone requiring further clarity to contact the Brakpan SPCA directly.
