Please help

Good Morning Ethel,  With regards to your complaint on Hello Peter and to the NSPCA that the Benoni SPCA has no compassion towards you regarding the dog you surrendered, namely Bolt , a cross wire haired terrier:  

1. You did bring Bolt into the Benoni SPCA on Thursday 23 /11/2023 for surrender to us, and for that we are thankful that you did not leave him on the side of the road or just give him away to someone else. 
2. Regarding the return of Bolt and us saying that you must go through the adoption process again:

 2.1               As per your own words on Hello Peter and to the NSPCA, you surrendered him to us because he started eating the sprinkler system. This indicates to me that your sprinkler system ,a lifeless object, is more important to you than you dog, a living creature with feelings, and that you prioritised your sprinkler system over the emotional turmoil that Bolt had to go through by this experience.  2.2               When you surrendered Bolt to us, you did not contribute a single cent to the cost of his care at the SPCA , nor did you bring any of his food, bedding or toys in with him, again indicting no consideration for his well-being and care.  2.3               Only once a “solution” was found to prevent him from eating / biting the sprinklers did you want to take him back. In place of just surrendering him, you could have boarded hm at the SPCA or some other boarding facility until the solution had been found.  2.4         As per the admission form that you signed, you indicated that “he eats everything”. What other action did you take to prevent him from eating other items? You have already surrendered him once for eating the sprinklers, I must ask myself , if he eats another item in the house or garden, are you going to give him away to another animal rescue / sanctuary and he must go through the traumatising experience again? Dogs are only destructive when something is bothering them, which could be boredom, jealousy, illness, there are many different reasons why they behave like this , and the cause of this would have to be ascertained and rectified otherwise his behaviour will not change. This would involve you obtaining the services of a qualified animal behaviourist or dog trainer, which cost money, and from your above actions and complaint about having to pay the adoption fee again, it appears that you are not willing to undergo such expenses, thus Bolts behaviour wont change and the problem would still remain.  Based on the observations indicated in points 2.1 to 2.4 , yes, the adoption process would have to be followed again, involving a home inspection to ensure that the premises complies with all requirements to ensure that bolt has a happy , safe , as well as you indicating and giving proof to us of what steps you have taken / or are willing to take to ensure that Bolt receives the  loving home environment he deserves,  and that his wellbeing is a priority.  In the meantime, he will have to stay in our care and this of course costs money, thus the full adoption fee will have to be paid again by any successful applicant who applies to adopt Bolt.  Kind Regards,  Jacques Cronje General Manager
