Never setting my foot at spca
How can they make people from outside permanent but not a volunteer? I know a volunteer that volunteers for 4years for this company. The staff bul**** her especially mickayla told the manager she mustn't make the volunteer permanent. The volunteer worked her butt off to make everyone happy she didint received a salary for the 4 years. One of the comitee members have a grudge so against her against all odds she was willing to learn about the wellfare but never given a chance to proof her worth. So guys sort this out pr pay the salary for 4 years that you guys owes this volunteer s gift card is not going to work a salary thats long overdue

Like many charities in South Africa, Boksburg SPCA receives no government funding but relies in the main on public donations to survive. Financial constraints are always an issue and while Boksburg SPCA would love to employ another 5-6 employees, finances do not allow this. Animal welfare is a 7 day a week, 365 day a year operation and careful consideration must be given in regard the long-term suitability of any future employee and the financial implications thereof.
A volunteer by definition is: “A person who works for an organisation without being paid.” Volunteers form an integral part of the charity sector in South Africa and are very valuable. Being a volunteer however is not a guarantee of employment.
It is true Ms. Smuts volunteered for Boksburg SPCA over a period of 4 years. In July 2023, Ms. Smuts advised our manager via email, that she had found permanent employment as a pet sitter – Boksburg SPCA wished her well and Ms. Smuts has not volunteered at our SPCA since then.
